Recruiting Roundup: Ohio State Makes A New Offer
Some important news has recently come out regarding Ohio State recruiting. The time between the end of the regular season and the bowl game is a key one for recruiting with the non-contact period ending. Ohio State coaches will hit the road in the coming weeks and will host multiple players on official and unofficial visits.
Ohio State has offered a long snapper in the 2011 class. Bryce Haynes, a 6''4, 185 lb., long snapper from Pinecrest Academy, Georgia was offered yesterday. From Chris Sailer's website:
Bryce is a very, very long athlete that is built for long snapping. Has a ton of potential and got better throughout the day. Love that. Has the ability to snap in the .7s. Needs to work on heightening his form a bit and gaining some lbs. Snapping could be huge for him if he works on it. (12-09 )
Bryce is an extremely long athlete that has improved immensely over the past year. Jumped from 46 all the way to 12. He could be in top 5 shortly. Ball is very fast, smooth and accurate. Form is exceptional and his balance is superb. Blocking and more weight will be the key to him advancing up the charts and taking his snapping to the next level. (5-10 )
Bryce has proven to me he is the best long snapper in the country right now. Extremely long and athletic. Ball absolutely flies into your hands. TIGHT spiral and he can block. Also very athletic. The kid has it all. Easily can put on thirty pounds. The kid is legit. No doubt.
Ohio State's competition for Haynes will be Utah State, North Carolina, and, fittingly, the Arkansas Razorbacks. Winner of the Sugar Bowl gets the long snapper!
In other news, dates are being scheduled for official visits for 2011 recruits across the country, and Ohio State is set to host an important group on the weekend of December 17th, including the aforementioned Haynes.
Hit the jump for more.
Linebacker Curtis Grant and Junior College defensive back Byron Moore are also visiting that weekend. Grant is a consensus five star linebacker, with the Florida Gators leading the pack for his services. Moore is a transfer from USC who is looking for immediate playing time. It's a common opinion that Moore is looking to stay on the West Coast, so a strong visit will be necessary for the Bucks to pull him.
Ohio State coaches will not have to wait until next weekend to make a positive impression on a key target, however. Junior college defensive lineman Cornelius "Tank" Carradine will visit Ohio State this weekend, and it will be up to the Buckeyes to blow him away in order to earn his signature. Carradine is a Cincinnati Taft High School graduate, but even those ties are not enough to guarantee him to the Bucks. Right now, Tank is a heavy lean to Florida State and something drastic will have to happen on the visit for that to change.
Angelo Jean-Louis, a 2012 WR/DB from Palm Beach Central High School in Florida, will unofficially visit Ohio State on December 15th. Unofficial visits from out of state recruits are very rare this far ahead of signing day (February 2012, in this case), so it's a good sign that Jean-Louis is taking a trip to Columbus at this time. The leader was thought to be the Miami Hurricanes, but who knows now that they've fired Randy Shannon?
And we finish with an eye on the long-term. 2013 prospect Jalin Marshall, from Middletown, Ohio, burst onto the recruiting scene this year at quarterback for the Middies. While he may not project to the position at the next level, Marshall will almost certainly be playing college football at some position, somewhere.
