Greetings!
Welcome to Along the Olentangy, the newest addition to the SportsBlog Nation platform.
Finally the football season is upon us, and the 2010 Football Buckeyes have had even higher than normal expectations placed on them. In the magnifying glass that is Ohio State football, where almost every moment is captured and scrutinized, an abundance of websites exist to cover the Buckeyes. We understand that the Ohio State fan has many options when choosing a site to frequent; Scout and Rivals provide in-depth recruiting coverage; BuckeyePlanet is a close-knit community; and the numerous other free sites all cover Ohio State in their own way. Yet we feel a place exists for a more comprehensive site to flourish. Our goal is to provide that place, all while encouraging intelligent discourse.
Personally, I've always been interested in starting an Ohio State blog, but the task of doing it right seemed too prohibitive, and the opportunity was never there. But when Bud Elliot, who runs the excellent Tomahawk Nation, approached me with an offer to run the new Ohio State site for SBN, I knew it was time to jump in the game and see where I could take this. My first step was to contact others who have distinguished themselves in the Ohio State realm.
Some of you will know Ross Fulton from Buckeye Football Analysis. The work he has done there is the quality of analysis we are striving to provide here.
Smith1 will be the point man on our recruiting coverage. His work over at ThaRinger has been exemplary, and he has agreed to help us get this blog off the ground.
I'd also like to give a shout-out to Warren Schultheis, who created our exquisite logo of pre-renovation Ohio Stadium framed by the Olentangy River. It's a treat to look at every time the site loads up on my web browser.
As for the name, we chose Along the Olentangy to recognize the history of Ohio State football. For as long as Ohio State has been playing in Ohio Stadium, the Olentangy River has been present, ever flowing, always there to watch the Buckeyes take the field, much as the fans have done for generations.
With the team we've formed here at Along the Olentangy, and with the encouragement of the SportsBlog Nation management, I truly feel that we're doing something special. It's an exciting time for Ohio State athletics, and our goal is to capture this excitement this football season and beyond. We are the fourth Ohio State site on SportsBlog Nation, and we plan to be the last. So stop by and drop us a line or two. We have some interesting things planned for the future of Buckeye coverage, and we hope you stay to experience it.

As a longtime SBN blogger and Buckeyes fan I’m really excited about the launch of this site. The last OSU site on here wasn’t very well run, so I hope this will be a much better experience. I’m looking forward to many interesting discussions about OSU football.

The last one sucked. Hard.
I can't believe Cribbs was considered the second best athlete in Cleveland.

Hey, don’t get too down. I, and much of the rest of the BBC (while at SBN) community had a great time while it lasted.

Let me concur … I loved the BBC’s recruiting angles and there was some good stuff there, but unfortunately, it seemed very ESPN board-ish at times as well. JMO.
thank guys, we are always trying to improve, and you certainly learn some things as you go along
either way, this appears to be an excellent addition to the coverage that Ohio State will have online
here’s to a great season

Wait, I just realized this technically might not be referring to my old blog
:)

Yeah, I wasn’t referring to your blog. There was another OSU blog on here after that one.

Site looks awesome.
And that logo alone is far better than anything I came up with. Good luck.

Great to have a team-specific OSU forum back
It sounds like you’ve assembled a great team of writers. We’ll look forward to collaborating!

First off, welcome to SBN. I just wanted you to be aware of an issue I noticed that could affect this blog’s traffic. On the left side of the blog, where there is quick access to the other blogs on SBN, Along the Olentangy is not listed. I’m sure people often use that feature to navigate, so I wanted you to be aware of it. Thanks.
site name
love the idea of the site. hope it contains great info in the future.
which means i hope you have access to coach tressell and some players and are not just gonna do all speculation and opinion.
but the name of the site… do you not realize that there are many more OSU fans out there than there are OSU grads? and that therefore your insider’s reference in the blog title is gonna prevent people from knowing this is an OSU blog?
I grew up in Ohio for the first 22 years of my life, in the Northeast. I root for all teams Cleveland, and the Buckeyes. But I had to look up olentangy.
personally i think you’d have done better reaching out to a wide audience than going with an insider name.
anyway, good luck to you
We want our work to force people to the site. Perhaps it is a little indistinct to those who are not aware of the relationship between the Olentangy river and Ohio Stadium, but that is the risk you take with something as popular as Ohio State athletics. We cannot account for everyone’s individual knowledge, but we can pick something that sounds enticing and a little bit classier than some of our other options.
Do you not remember hearing Keith Jackson’s voice at the beginning of every home Buckeyes game saying "from the banks of the mighty Olentangy River . . . "? And I’ve heard many other announces say it since he’s retired. You don’t have to be from Columbus to know that the Olentangy River flows by the Horseshoe, just like you don’t need to be from Cleveland to know the Cuyahoga River.
