Former FSU player Dionte Allen transferring to Ohio State
After leaving Florida State two weeks ago, defensive back Dionte Allen has decided to transfer to Ohio State. Ken Gordon of the Columbus Dispatch officially reported the decision with this tweet:
Fla. St. DB Dionte Allen is transferring to OSU, according to his prep teammate, OSU WR Taurian Washington.
Allen played high school football at Orchard Lake St. Mary's, one of the most active producers of prep football talent in the state of Michigan. Current Ohio State players Taurian Washington and Aaron Gant played with Allen at St. Mary's, and were an integral part in convincing him to transfer to Ohio State. Allen grew up a Florida State fan, eventually following his heart when choosing to become a Seminole. With the coaching turnover at FSU and the influx of young defensive back talent, the Florida State staff and Allen came to a mutual decision to part ways. The always connected Bill Greene of Scout.com originally broke the news that Allen was considering Ohio State.
Already having used his redshirt, Allen will have one year to play one after he sits out this season. There is some hope that he can be rewarded a medical redshirt, but that will be up to the NCAA's review board. Allen will join a talented defensive backfield at Ohio State, and it will be interesting to see how he fits in after spending the past four years in the man-heavy scheme of Mickey Andrews. Ohio State's defensive coverages and responsibilities are much more varied than the one that Allen learned while at FSU. He was engaged in a position battle for the starting field cornerback in the spring, and it's likely that he begins his Ohio State career at corner.

Back to Dionte. Someone at TN posted in the comment section on the link and I also wonder, if he can’t cut it at FSU at a time where we’ve been down, does he look to possibly contribute at OSU? I can’t see how he can make an impact in 1 year to play 1. I wish him the best, but he never seemed to be able to keep on his feet when I watched him, great athlete though.
Best of luck! I’ll be checkin in to read up on a future NC opponent I hope soon.
This move puzzled me at first, but I think the key thing is the context around it. He won’t fill a scholarship for four years, and it helps strengthen the relationship with his high school- Orchard Lake St. Mary’s. A big time linebacker is in the 2012 class from there- James Ross- and the Bucks are in a battle with the in-state schools and Penn State for him. This could be a valuable chip when recruiting him and his coaches at OSLM.
From FSU’s perspective, Jimbo Fisher is building for the future, not now. Who’s he going to play more, the local kid who has three years left in the program (Greg Reid), or the kid from Michigan, a place FSU never recruits, and someone who has little time left in the program?
I think that answer is pretty obvious.
Well
I wish him the best of luck. And hopefully he will get to see the U go up there and get stomped.

Dionte could never stay healthy for us, but we wish him luck.
Never a bad kid to my knowledge and I hope he can contribute for the buckeyes!
This team will improve in '10... on its 16-16 conference record over the last 4 years.... after losing 20 games in the last 4 years... after having the 7th worst major-conference defense... after not even winning its own division in the ACC in the last 4.
