Steve Miller reminds me of Will Smith a lot. He has the perfect frame for a 43 under weakside end. I’m curious to see how Ohio State handles the defensive line when this next crop of guys come in- do they stick with their hybrid bear/under defense, or do they play something a little more traditional?

I hope they at least keep a package of the bear/under stuff. I like it. Obviously, you gotta have the athletes to run what you are going to run, though.

Can some of the younger guys we have (Fellows, Durham, JT Moore, Newsome, etc.) be that hybrid guy? Several of them seemed like speed rushers to me. Seems like we have a lot of the strongside end/3 tech tackle guys, and Hankins seems like a solid option at the shade nose.

Fellows, by all accounts, had a strong fall camp as the strongside defensive end. I think you’ll see him as the starter once Cam graduates. Newsome has been moved to full-time linebacker.

Durham is a little bit of an odd fit right now. He played middle linebacker in high school, and was supposed to start there at Ohio State, but by the middle of fall camp he was taking reps at the LEO spot (hybrid spot you mentioned.)

J.T. Moore was also taking reps there. These guys are young, so there’s a lot to play out, but there’s not an obvious replacement for Nathan Williams once he graduates. Someone will have to earn it in the next two years.

Hopefully someone can lock the spot down. I like it better when we have a guy like Thaddeus starting and one like Williams backing him up.

The Miller kid we are getting next year is supposed to be a good DE, right? You think he will stay athletic enough to play the LEO or is he going to grow out of it? I haven’t seen a picture of him to make a guess, even.

Steve Miller isn’t a LEO. He’s a true defensive end.

I apologize for the formatting. There’s something hinky with Blip.TV clips that inserts all of those extra icons. I’ve edited multiple times but they’re still their.

As for DL alignments, I agree with your evaluation of Miller. I’m anticipating Farris at DT eventually & Hayes at SSDE ala Cam Heyward’s role today. The scary thing is stacking the next class’ bumper crop on top of these guys! I don’t ever remember seeing this much or this quality of DL talent in Ohio.

It’s definitely a good problem to have. Thanks for the video’s, too. I only caught a few of the games last weekend. Pickerington Central once again takes care of Ohio’s honor.

If anyone didn’t catch the Glenville-Dwyer game, check out that video. Crazy ending.

For Glenville, #7 Frank Clark needs to be playing in the Big Ten. He’s not quite Ohio State-caliber but just below it. This is the second week in a row I’ve read glowing reports about his play.

I am still getting used to the SBN Editor technology, and I believe I accidentally “hid” this post from the front page after it had been published. So if anyone tried to comment but was denied, I apologize, and feel free to post again. It has been fixed.
