So, uh, OSU misses a bowl and loses to MIchigan… And you’d take OSU’s roster over nearly everyone in the Big 10. Way to coach them down…

Ugh, I can’t believe the two games I watched today were Penn State – Indiana and Ohio State – Michigan State. I actually started an “S-E-C! S-E-C!” chant by myself, in my living room.

Sorry, guys.

Actually, I’d love to see the Big 10 fail really hard and we join one of those super conferences. The Big 10 is a god damn joke now. I really hate the administration with a passion.

Yep. I thought the Penn State-Indiana game was a poor excuse for football, and then this…

So let’s discuss our next head coach. Who are your favorites? Who are the realistic candidates? Any big names outside of Urban? What type of system would you like to see here?

I think that Urban would be great for Braxton but I would prefer Bo or Bob. I just don’t think they’d leave Nebraska or OU respectively.

by Cry on Oct 1, 2011 6:54 PM EDT reply actions

It’ll be interesting to see who’s interested after (I’m guessing) the NCAA hands out 3-5 sholarship losses for 3 years.

by rogerja on Oct 1, 2011 6:56 PM EDT up reply actions

He is going to be the next HC of the Colts. Jim Caldwell is as incompetent as Fickell…and Caldwell’s previous job was as the QB coach.

by Revenge of the Fallen on Oct 1, 2011 7:03 PM EDT up reply actions

I fully believe he came on as a “replay consultant” to get the suspension out of the way.

by Cry on Oct 1, 2011 7:04 PM EDT up reply actions

probably. I think it’s basically a way to at least get into the Colts program a year before taking it over next year. I think Tress will def improve their run game but I doubt he has any major say over the passing offense.

by Revenge of the Fallen on Oct 1, 2011 7:06 PM EDT up reply actions

That alone...

would make me a Colts fan.

Me too..

And Imagine if he get’s to start his mark by grooming Andrew Luck behind Peyton Manning.

I’m a Stanford alum team too. Having both Luck and Tressel at the helm would basically make me a Colts fan. Of course, that’s a better alternative to my current NFL allegiance: the Cardinals :/

Which is better than my lifelong NFL allegiance: The Bengals :(

Tressel coaching there is the chance I’d ever root for the Colts.

by rogerja on Oct 1, 2011 6:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Actually, I think Stoops would fit in well here, we’re used to losing BCS National Championship games.

even with the scholarship reductions...

I still think Urban takes the job. Pound for pound, ounce for ounce, we’re still (sadly) the most talented team in the B1G. The worst thing we can do right now is go for a small fish like U$C did with Lame Kiffin. Now THAT’S at program-breaker.

by Cry on Oct 1, 2011 7:06 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah,

I should have put this as a response, but someone pointed out earlier that they don’t think a coach would come to OSU if we get hit with a couple scholly reductions by the NCAA. I disagreed.

by MediBuck on Oct 1, 2011 7:15 PM EDT up reply actions

I don’t know how bad we get hit, if it’s anything at all. But even if we do have some reduction, this is still a premium job in America.

I think Urban will have the first shot at saying yes. If he says no, and I don’t think he will, then I would love to see OSU go after Kirby Smart, DC at Alabama.

Oh, it’s the premium job in America. Even with that, I feel like if Urban wanted the job, he’d have it.

by Simmsinns on Oct 1, 2011 7:09 PM EDT up reply actions

It would have been too messy to bring him in before this season.

If I had to guess, I bet that “someone” at tOSU has already discussed the job with Meyer. I would be shocked if he wasn’t tOSU’s HC next year.

by Bernie19Kosar on Oct 1, 2011 7:13 PM EDT up reply actions

I think if we had someone talk to him, we’d probably have found out about it. I’d be slightly surprised if he is the coach, but not that much. But I still think he’s our best bet to turn it around before it gets Michigan/Notre Dame/Miami bad.

"I want my unwarranted optimism back." -Dilbert

by Simmsinns on Oct 1, 2011 7:18 PM EDT up reply actions

No way would we have heard about it. There are tons of ways to gauge a coaches interest and keep it out of the media’s spotlight.

We’re going to lose to Michigan. I keep saying it, but it isn’t setting in like it should. Normally I’m breaking things.

/won’t remember if it did…

by rogerja on Oct 1, 2011 6:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Said it before, but Fickell is in waaaaay over his head.

It wasn’t hit upon during the broadcast, but man alive did Fickell butcher the end of the first half. Way to end the half on MSU’s side of the field, let time run out WITH A TIMEOUT in your pocket!!

Then, he let’s Bauserman play at the end, even though he claimed Miller was the clear cut starter. Bauserman racks up some yards against a prevent defense, and will probably be named starter next week. This is text book definition way to screw up a young QB.

Anyone on that coaching staff have any idea how to put together an imaginative gameplan?? Someone should tell the coaches that running a play-action pass on 3rd &13 with an all-out blitz being shown is a stupid idea.

This coaching staff is making easy, totally avoidable mistakes. Urban can’t get here soon enough.

I’m not willing to throw away the season, this defense is still very good, but someone on offense has to be “the man”. Hopefully it is Boom.

by Bernie19Kosar on Oct 1, 2011 6:59 PM EDT reply actions   1 recs

New offensive strategy:

Boom in the Wildcat with Hall in the slot and Posey on the end-around.
Oh wait, that’s the triple option, isn’t it?

OSU hasn’t put it’s athletes in good positions in a while (sometimes even under tress). The routes are mostly deep, rather than letting athletes make plays in space.

We need a coach that;ll do that.

by rogerja on Oct 1, 2011 7:02 PM EDT up reply actions

You sound incredibly optimistic.

"I want my unwarranted optimism back." -Dilbert

by Simmsinns on Oct 1, 2011 7:04 PM EDT up reply actions

I am.

Ohio State still has more talent than probably ever other B10 team and is probably the youngest. Yeah, this season will suck, but we’ll get through it. If anything, it will close the door on Fickell being the HC here.

Get Urban in here, give him this roster, and let him coach. He would keep up the Florida connection for tOSU and recruit like a mad man.

This school is too loaded for this to continue. I got through years of Steve Bellisari, I can do one season of Bauserman on my head.

by Bernie19Kosar on Oct 1, 2011 7:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Urban Meyer’s recruiting is the biggest reason we need him here. The southern presence will be huge. Make him some kind of offer that’s literally impossible to refuse under any circumstances whatsoever.

"I want my unwarranted optimism back." -Dilbert

by Simmsinns on Oct 1, 2011 7:15 PM EDT up reply actions

He clearly loves Ohio...

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/2007-01-07-florida-meyer-ohio_x.htm

And has a powerful Midwest connection. He assistant coached at OSU, has a Master’s from OSU (technically makes him an alum). He also can recruit Florida, and if he hangs on to Sam Drayton (some continuity, yay!) then he’ll definitely open up a Southern pipeline.

I dislike him and his style very much, but if Ohio State plans on continuing the trend of winning, we better get ready to beg Meyer on our hands and knees to please save us from this misery.

Anything less than an offer impossible to refuse would be a catastrophe on the part of OSU.

Things to do:

#1: DO NOT assume he is a lock. Make sure to court him publicly
#2: DO NOT be stingy. Our Blue n Gold friends up north certainly made that mistake.
#3: Stress how he always was, and will continue to be, a huge part of the Buckeye family. The man has to feel like he’s coming home even before he gets the job.

Still feels weird that Clemson and OSU are having reverse seasons. It’s almost like they switched. I don’t think Clemson’s looked as bad as OSU does now in the past few seasons, but I’m saying that normally OSU is 5-0 and highly ranked, while Clemson’s at 3-2.

I keep hearing and seeing things about Braxton being the problem. Did anyone watch the same game. Half the time he couldn’t get back t make the HANDOFF before someone came through the revolving door that is JB Shugarts and smacked him. Sheesh. Get a REAL QB coach. Prolly should have done that instead of another Defensive coach. Or fire the VCR boy and replace him and THEN hire Vrabel. Remember Tress WAS the QB coach Luke. You don’t think there’d be a dropoff in QB play without a REAL QB coach????

Luke… use your brain Luke. Stretch out with your common sense… I am your FATHER.
