Status of DeVier Posey, Dan Herron Still in Doubt, Reports Dispatch
DeVier Posey and Dan Herron may have more problems with the NCAA, according to the Columbus Dispatch.
The return of Ohio State tailback Daniel Herron and receiver DeVier Posey from their start-of-the-season NCAA suspensions could be delayed by at least one more game barring a change of heart by the NCAA, sources told The Dispatch this morning.
Set to return for this weekend's game against Nebraska, Posey and Herron are now embroiled in yet another NCAA investigation, this one centered on part-time summer jobs. The NCAA began investigating the two following the suspension of three Buckeye players earlier this season for accepting improper benefits after working a charity event. Corey Brown, Jordan Hall, and Travis Howard were each suspended two games for receiving $200 in cash.
The NCAA probe into Herron and Posey showed, in the Dispatch's words, that "they may have received improper benefits in terms of alleged inflated remuneration while working summer jobs in the Cleveland area." Essentially, it appears Herron and Posey received more money than the NCAA deems the jobs were worth.
What are the possible consequences?
According to the Dispatch's source, "one more game of suspension for Herron, for whom the benefits was said to be in the $200 to $400 range, and perhaps multiple games for Posey, for whom the benefit was said to be about $500." Gene Smith will hold a press conference at 3:30 p.m. to confirm the report.
And the carousel continues.
