Game Notes

  • Mark Rea of Scout.com again made his annual visit to Woody's grave before the Michigan game. See what he had to say before The Game begins.
  • Reserve Michigan linebacker Brennan Beyer will miss the game. He is Michigan's 4th man at the position, and a good blitzer, but they should be fine without him, although their pressure package takes a hit.
  • MGoBlog characterizes Orhian Johnson, C.J. Barnett, and Christian Bryant as "crap tacklers and mediocre players," which isn't really accurate. Johnson is a solid tackler but just average in coverage, one McGloin screw up notwithstanding. Barnett is a fine tackler and strong in coverage; Bryant's an inconsistent tackler, excellent in man coverage, and sometimes lost in zone. Travis Howard and poor linebacker play have been the real defensive issues this season. I'm far more worried about Etienne Sabino and Storm Klein tracking Denard Robinson than I am the secondary.
  • Brady Hoke is a big Johnny Simon fan. In his press conference last Wednesday, he noted how much he loves watching Simon play.
  • Reading a Brady Hoke press conference transcript before The Game is exactly like reading a Jim Tressel transcript before The Game. Eerie.

Let’s go BUCKS! Let’s make Hoke refer to us a The Ohio State University after this one.

I stand by my prediction from the preview. I feel an upset.

by Tyler T. on Nov 26, 2011 11:58 AM EST reply actions

I hope you’re right.

There are a few rumors floating around that Jim Tressel had something to do with the preparation for this game. I didn’t feel confident enough in the intel to put it in the post, but it can certainly go here.

One from Scout, one from Bucknuts.

by Tyler T. on Nov 26, 2011 12:04 PM EST up reply actions

Would that be illegal if Tress actually did that?

by Revenge of the Fallen on Nov 26, 2011 12:05 PM EST up reply actions

Depends what happened. Rumors range from him speaking to the team at the WHAC before they left for Ann Arbor to helping with the gameplan.

As great a college football legacy as you can have as the head coach of The Ohio State University.

Tight man coverage.

by Tyler T. on Nov 26, 2011 12:18 PM EST reply actions

That was double slants, too. It’s designed to work against man. Bad throw by Robinson, good play by Howard.

by Tyler T. on Nov 26, 2011 12:19 PM EST reply actions

What were the three words before “Howard”? Haven’t seen those there before

Wish he wasn’t. I want him to run the ball all the time. I don’t want to see fumbles from Hall and Hyde.

by Revenge of the Fallen on Nov 26, 2011 12:22 PM EST up reply actions

Herron is playing special teams. Think he wants to win much? Love that guy

by cplunk on Nov 26, 2011 12:19 PM EST reply actions

Christian Bryant is OUT. Corey Brown (other one) has replaced him at the Star.

by Tyler T. on Nov 26, 2011 12:21 PM EST reply actions

The Corey Brown of the offense is called Philly Brown lol.

by Revenge of the Fallen on Nov 26, 2011 12:22 PM EST up reply actions

I hope we stay aggressive and don’t revert to Tresselball too quickly. 4th quarter is fine, but not right now.

by Lesterh on Nov 26, 2011 12:21 PM EST reply actions

The line failed on him.

Dawgs By Nature - Where winning, apparently, did some bad things.

by Simmsinns on Nov 26, 2011 12:24 PM EST reply actions

I think he failed on him. Too many men to block, Michigan was in man on the backside. He’s got to get rid of the ball. But it’s ok. He’s young.

by Tyler T. on Nov 26, 2011 12:25 PM EST up reply actions

3rd and 8, stuck in the pocket, probably no one open 8 yards down the field.

I’d rather he take a sack then force an intentional grounding.

Damn…no short routes for the WR’s

by cplunk on Nov 26, 2011 12:26 PM EST reply actions

Brought Roby on a blitz, and he was the force player. When Robinson bounced it outside, there was nothing. Just a bad gamble. No reason to freak over that one.

by Tyler T. on Nov 26, 2011 12:27 PM EST reply actions

They are going to run that nonsense all game. We can’t let him get passes us.

Dawgs By Nature - Where winning, apparently, did some bad things.

Michigan’s running a ton of plays they haven’t, or have minimally, run earlier this season.

by Tyler T. on Nov 26, 2011 12:41 PM EST reply actions

One of the reasons I’m not confident today is that Hoke has prepared for this like Tressel used to- prepping plays all year just for use in this game

I live next to a Michigan fan, work between two Michigan fans, and go to boxing with a Michigan fan. I’ve talked s for seven years. I HATE that tomorrow is going to be my come-uppance. Only Miller can save me. Come on, Miller. No more missing open posts

by cplunk on Nov 26, 2011 12:45 PM EST reply actions

We’re talking 9 to 16 points the other way. Fucking bullshit, inserting themselves as the deciding factor and shit.

Dawgs By Nature - Where winning, apparently, did some bad things.

by Simmsinns on Nov 26, 2011 12:45 PM EST reply actions

The safety was bad call. But its over. Nothing to do about it. Time to step up and stay in the game

by cplunk on Nov 26, 2011 12:46 PM EST up reply actions

I can complain about it because those fuckers screwed us out.

Dawgs By Nature - Where winning, apparently, did some bad things.

by Simmsinns on Nov 26, 2011 12:47 PM EST up reply actions

We have to get this running game started. I like the early passes, but we can’t keep that up the whole game. Run to win.

Posey and Heron playing special teams. If the other guys want this like they do, we can come back

Exactly. Older guys set the tone.

by Tyler T. on Nov 26, 2011 12:51 PM EST up reply actions

Spielman’s wrong. That was outside zone. Herron was supposed to bounce. They just couldn’t block for him.

by Tyler T. on Nov 26, 2011 12:49 PM EST reply actions

Of course not.

Dawgs By Nature - Where winning, apparently, did some bad things.

Miller is trying to hard on the long throws that are open. Instead of jusy laying it out there he’s trying to aim it and throw to a spot. His mindset is clearly all about avoiding ints. It’s served us well with our crap offense this year, but if he relaxes a little and opens up he has two long TD throws this game. The kid will be awesome next year. Promise.

by ahowie on Nov 26, 2011 1:44 PM EST up reply actions

Possession must be established before the ball hits, and then it must be maintained. It’s unclear if that happened, but the call on the field was a catch and there was no camera angle that could confirm or overturn it.

by Tyler T. on Nov 26, 2011 1:51 PM EST up reply actions
