Ohio State - Indiana Animated Drive Chart | Is Fickell Safe?
Animated Drive Chart brought to you by Gameday Depot.
- Yards Per Play: Ohio State 7.03, Indiana 4.75
- Plays: Ohio State 57, Indiana 70
- Indiana put a scare into the Buckeye defense, but they performed about average. True to form, they ran a great number of plays yet struggled to find consistent success. A few big passes skewed the yards and kept them in the game.
- Ohio State ran fewer plays than against Wisconsin for a higher yards per play. The Buckeyes had eight plays of 20+ yards for a total of 304 yards. More explosion, less consistency. In Bill Connelly's parlance, it means a higher points per play and a lower success rate.
- Offensive MVP: Dan Herron, again. 14 carries for 141 yards, or 10.1 YPC, and a touchdown. He's the best offensive player we have.
- Defensive MVP: Always, a case could be made for John Simon. I'll give this week's award to Travis Howard for his late, game-sealing interception, however.
- Should Fickell receive the permanent job? Paul Myerberg thinks the Buckeye's recent stretch strengthens Fickell's case:
The Buckeyes went 2-2 in October, losing by a field goal against Michigan State and blowing a huge lead at Nebraska — a slide that coincided with an injury to Braxton Miller. Over the last two weeks, the Buckeyes have imposed their will on Illinois and beat then-No. 15 Wisconsin.
With Indiana and Purdue preceding a home date against Penn State and a trip to Ann Arbor, it’s well within the realm of possibility that this team finishes the regular season with an 8-4 record. And if it does, Fickell should deserve some consideration for the permanent job — even if the idea of landing an Urban Meyer appeals greatly to Ohio State.

I still believe that Fickell is not the right man for the job. The defense has definitely taken a step back this year and that is his calling card. Talent is the only thing that has kept this season from being a total train wreck IMO. Compare the Toledo game to Indiana and you don’t see much progress. There are tons of teams doing much more with far less talent. Fickell does not have that “it” factor you see in the great coaches.
Tyler, thanks again for the Drive Chart. Thank god we’re finishing the season against teams that don’t have the color red in their scheme, my retinas are burning.
I think that if Ohio State wins out, Fickell is safe, or at least should be considered for “permanent” employment. I’d like to see it with the caveat of asst coaching changes…

Has Fickell done anything to be considered seriously? If Fickell hadn’t played here would the community really want him to be the coach?
Read and absorb my comments. I qualified it that IF OSU wins out, then he should be considered. I did not say ‘HIRE HIM NOW’. Jesus Christ, take a deep breath, will you?

You literally replied to his comment.

I literally put it in the wrong box.
There were no comments below his at the time i did it. I was adding to my earlier post. Besides the fact that the guy totally overreacted if i had. Was there one single ounce of my statement that was attacking? No!
To recap: i was not referring to him (if you have ever seen me post you would know that i would certainly admit if i did). Thanks for your opinion.
All I am saying is it’s confusing when you reply but you don’t really reply. I hope you could see how he thought you were actually replying to him.

It’ll be interesting to see what his plans are for the future if he’s hired. BOllman’s gone no matter what, I think. Heacock may stay, but I’d like to see if Fickell has other ideas fo rhte D. Would he bring in Walt Harris to oversee the offense? I’d try like hell to get LeCharles Bentley down here to coach the OL.
Fickell’s future here depends on how he finishes against Michigan, that’ll be the prime factor when they look back on this season. Did the streak end under Fickell? Does he have a Cooper look to him?
Seconded. Regardless of what anyone’s opinions about Tressel’s coaching or the whole fallout from Tattoo-gate, Ohio State fans have been experiencing incredible success vs. Michigan (and in general, I suppose). Any hint of a return to the Cooper era and Columbus will demand Fickell’s head. Not really my opinion, but what I think will happen with OSU fans in general.
I honestly do not believe there is anything Fickell can do. It is 100% whether or not a few selections say yes or no….

Ohio State fans beware of Urban Meyer
I live in G’ville, Fl. Urban Meyer lost his team at UF. Too many 1 man team’rs and not enough players playing as a team. Couldn’t control that at UF why could he do it at OSU? Do you want to see the option for the next 10 years???
Now to Fickell. Give Fickell a 3/2 year deal now and let him get the recruites left out there. If OSU waits there may be none left for the “New” coach to get. I think Fickell understands the offensive woes and would clean house on that side of the ball if given the chance(BIG HOPEFULLY HERE). If he doesn’t work out next year buy out his contract and move on. Recruiting needs to happen now not later. No athlete on the fence will commit to a coachless team…….
