2011 Selection Sunday Live Thread: Ohio State's Top Seed and a Complete, Printable Bracket

What: 2011 Selection Sunday Live Bracket Announcements

When: Sunday, March 13th; 6:00 p.m.

Television: CBS

SB Nation Site: NCAA Basketball Hub

The show kicks off at 6 p.m. on CBS and will unveil the 2011 NCAA official bracket. Ohio State is obviously in the tournament, but the question of seeding remains. The tournament's overall top seed is between the Buckeyes and the Kansas Jayhawks, with both teams aiding their cause by winning their respective conference tournaments. Duke bolstered their shot at a number one seed with an impressive victory in the ACC Tournament against North Carolina, and it's a good bet that they will join Pittsburgh, Ohio State, and Kansas as the fourth and final top regional seed.

Update: Ohio State is the overall top seed in the tournament, and they are joined by Duke, Pittsburgh, and Kansas as #1 seeds in their region.

If they aren't the No. 1 overall seed, someone screwed up.

Yes. East region. Kansas in SW, Pitt in SE, Duke in W.

Yep, top overall seed. We’re in Cleveland from Friday to Sunday.

UAB is in the play-in game solely because of a nice RPI record. Ken Pomeroy is going to have an aneurysm.

by Tyler T. on Mar 13, 2011 6:15 PM EDT reply actions

UAB sucks. I can’t believe C-USA is getting two bids. That conference had a miserable year. Personally, I don’t think Clemson should be in either.

I hate when that happens.

I’ve grown up a two-team fan of OSU and Xavier. I love them both equally and I’m extremely conflicted when the two play.

We're Big East city over here. Good thing none of those teams scare me. We avoided the Kemba Walker death-match.

I think they're solid too, but I always am scared playing the best player on the floor. Would rather play them than UCONN.

Very tough region for Ohio State. Look for Duke to mysteriously end up with an easier draw.

by Tyler T. on Mar 13, 2011 6:20 PM EDT reply actions

Across the seeds I'd rather play every one that Duke got (minus UCONN). How does this happen every time?

Again Duke gets an easy seed?

by emily522 on Mar 13, 2011 7:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Not as easy as Kansas or Pitt.

by ahowie on Mar 13, 2011 8:01 PM EDT up reply actions

No they don’t have an easy draw, I think UConn and Texas are both tough. Pitt got the easiest region.

Also, any idea that the committee tries to give Duke an easy draw to make sure they reach the Final Four is just stupid. First of all, the process to set up the bracket is so complex that it would be very difficult to purpously try to help one team or hurt another team. Secondly, there are many teams (like OSU) with much larger fan bases that would bring in more viewers than Duke so I don’t know why people think CBS or the NCAA would want to favor Duke anyways. It’s just silly conspiracy theories.

by Buckeye Brad on Mar 13, 2011 8:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Michigan’s an #8 seed in Duke’s bracket. Yikes.

by Tyler T. on Mar 13, 2011 6:21 PM EDT reply actions

UNC and Kentucky are also in our bracket. Tough.

I see PSU beating Temple but no one else.

by ahowie on Mar 13, 2011 6:27 PM EDT up reply actions

PSU gets Temple in the first round.

by Tyler T. on Mar 13, 2011 6:24 PM EDT reply actions

Our bracket isn’t all that bad. UNC’s a weak 2. Cuse and Kentucky are a little worrisome if they’re hot. Overall it’s not that much harder, if any harder, than Duke’s. Duke has Texas as a 4, that’s bonkers. I feel bad for Oakland, cus I thought they had a great shot for an upset or two, but that’s a brutal draw for them.

by ahowie on Mar 13, 2011 6:28 PM EDT reply actions

I’m just glad we didn’t get Notre Dame as our 2. They scare the hell out of me. When they’re hot they’re ridiculous.

by ahowie on Mar 13, 2011 6:30 PM EDT reply actions

Texas has been in free-fall for the last month. Idk if they are going to do anything this year.

Purdue/Notre Dame should be fun. Also, what if Sparty misses it? Hilarious.

Texas was too good for too long to write them off. And there’s no way MSU misses out if all the other B10 teams are already in. Getting 7 out of 11 teams is awesome, but no one will talk about that feat if Big East gets 11.

by ahowie on Mar 13, 2011 6:34 PM EDT up reply actions

There’s a theory that the ACC refs screwed over FSU to get Virginia Tech in the tournament. There was a huge discrepancy in foul calls.

I agree, Sparty will beat UCLA too. Michigan is probably a toss-up, it depends if Hardaway is hot.

Belmont has looked awesome this year. They haven’t really matched up against any big boys but I already decided beforehand that they were going to probably be one of my bigger upsets. Love them.

by ahowie on Mar 13, 2011 6:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Colorado got fucked. All the “First Four” teams are huge question marks for me. The fact that USC, VCU, Clemson, and UAB made it in over Colorado is absolutely ridiculous to me.

And 'Bama not in, Georgia is in. That makes sense.

It does. I don’t care if Alabama beat Georgia twice, their resume is not impressive at all to me. Georgia basically didn’t have any bad losses, won a ton of close games, and played in the by far more difficult half of the SEC.

by ahowie on Mar 13, 2011 6:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Still, head to head should be the tie-break.

It can only break the tie if there really is a tie. Georgia’s resume is better.

by Tyler T. on Mar 13, 2011 8:01 PM EDT up reply actions

Right. Not to mention that you’re comparing many teams, not just two against each other. There could have been many other teams rated ahead of Alabama who also missed out.

It was a response to your first sentence. Florida may be the most overseeded team in the tournament. I’d say ND, if they’re hot, are by far the most dangerous 2.

I have a handful of upsets in Pitt’s region, but no where really else. I like Belmont, ODU and Utah State winning.

by ahowie on Mar 13, 2011 8:03 PM EDT reply actions

Michigan State as well.

by ahowie on Mar 13, 2011 8:04 PM EDT up reply actions

This all speaks to how freaking easy I think Pitt’s road to Houston is.

by ahowie on Mar 13, 2011 8:06 PM EDT up reply actions

Pittsburgh also has the second best offensive rebounding percentage in the country. They’re a good bet.

by Tyler T. on Mar 13, 2011 8:10 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m debating how I’m going to pick teams this year. Last season, three of the four Final Four teams were in the top ten in offensive rebounding. I think that’s a good overarching strategy, but it doesn’t hold up in the early games.

by Tyler T. on Mar 13, 2011 8:04 PM EDT reply actions

If that’s the case ODU may be winning it all hah.

by ahowie on Mar 13, 2011 8:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Just a heads up, every college SBN site will be making a post tomorrow analyzing the bracket and offering up their tips on how to pick yours. If you’re not sure how you’re going to pick yet, there should be plenty of different strategies that you can read through tomorrow. I need to put some thought into mine still, but I do think offensive rebounding percentage will be a guiding principle.

by Tyler T. on Mar 13, 2011 8:23 PM EDT reply actions

Found some interesting trends regarding offensive rebounding percentage. In tomorrow’s story, I’m going to lay them out alongside a March Madness Competition I’ve set up at CBSSports.com. It’s free and for the Along the Olentangy community.
